    17th RUNNING, JUNE 3, 2012

    6-½ FURLONGS IN STAKES RECORD 1:14.53 :22.22 :44.31 1:08.07

JOCKEY LESLIE MAWING, D’HONORABLE ONE, WINNER: “I met with Blaine (Wright) this morning, and we thought there might be some other speed in the race. I didn’t want to fight my horse at all, so he would settle easier. I knew Makors Finale would be tough on the lead. I didn’t want him to get too far ahead of us, so I just paced him from behind. For a split second, I did pass him, but he was game on the lead. I hooked him at the three-eighths pole and it was a horse race from then on. Both Gallyn (Mitchell) and I rode our horses past the wire. We both thought the other had won, but I guess the wire couldn’t separate us.”

JOCKEY GALLYN MITCHELL, MAKORS FINALE, WINNER: “Tom (Wenzel) told me to put the horse on the lead. He was going so easy on the lead, but at about the eighth-pole, Leslie (Mawing) got a head on me. My horse is laid back in the morning, but you get him in company, he’s a different horse. I never really knew if we ever got by the other horse, but coming back (to the winners’ circle), I called it a dead-heat.”

NOTES: D’honorable One (6-4-0-2-$67,815); Makors Finale (8-3-4-0-$63,352)…This is only the second dead-heat for win in Emerald Downs’ stakes history. On July 26, 2009, Elusive Horizon and Holy Nova dead-heated for first in the Boeing Handicap. Incidentally, Mario Gutierrez of I’ll Have Another fame rode Holy Nova in the Boeing…Gallyn Mitchell is No. 1 all-time with 75 stakes wins at Emerald Downs…Leslie Mawing has 18 stakes wins and is tied with Ben Russell for seventh place all-time at EmD…Blaine Wright has six stakes wins at Emerald Downs, including three with horses owned by Nelson Family Racing (Zayda 2, D’honorable One 1)…Tom Wenzel has two stakes wins at the meet (Exclusive Diva, Seattle Handicap; Makors Finale, Auburn Handicap) and is 11th all-time with 15 stakes wins at EmD…Auburn Mayor Pete Lewis served as Honorary Steward…Next for 3-year-old colts & geldings: $50,000 Coca-Cola Handicap, One Mile, Sunday, June 24.
