UGOTTABCATTY SURGES TO VICTORY
FRIDAY IN NORTHWEST BREWING PURSE
AUBURN, Wash. (Aug. 1) – Ugottabcatty rallied under leading rider Leslie Mawing and scored a half-length victory Friday in the $11,650 Northwest Brewing Purse for 3-year-olds and up at Emerald Downs.
Ugottabcatty ran six furlongs in 1:08.88 on a fast track and paid $5.80, $3.20 and $2.20. Robbie Baze is the trainer for owner James Foulkes.
Star of the Dia, ridden by Isaias Enriquez, finished second by a nose and paid $3.80 and $2.80. Spot of Salt, the 6-to-5 betting favorite ridden by Eliska Kubinova, was a head back in third place and paid $2.40 to show.
Red Defense, Parkers Bluff and Financial Officer rounded out the order of finish.
Last early, Ugottabcatty gathered momentum on the turn, angled out into the stretch, and collared Star of the Dia and Spot of Salt in the final strides. It was the second straight last-to-first victory for Ugottabcatty, both with Mawing riding.
An 8-year-old Washington-bred gelding, Ugottabcatty broke his maiden at Emerald Downs on July 10, 2008, and has been a fixture in mid-level claimers for six years.
By Jazzing Around-Nightly Habit, Ugottabcatty is 7-13-10 in 41 starts lifetime with earnings of $104,168, including $6,408 for Friday’s triumph.
NOTES: Three jockeys dominated the card, winning all seven races. Kubinova led the way with three wins including the evening’s two double-digit winners—Surprise Sale ($10.40) in the first and Ontheshadyside ($13) in the nightcap. . .Mawing and Anne Sanguinetti rode two winners each. Mawing’s double extended his lead to 64-51 over Rocco Bowen atop the standings. . .Sanguinetti rode two winners for Jeff Metz, who now leads Frank Lucarelli 41-31 in the trainers’ race. . .Metz claimed feature-race winner Ugottabcatty for $12,500 Friday for owner TG Racing LLC. . .
Raesbeautifulhope tied the meet’s biggest claim, $25,000, in Friday’s second race. A Washington-bred by Harbor the Gold, Raesbeautiful was red-tagged by trainer Howard Belvoir and owners Circle Arrow B. Raesbeuatifulqueen finished third as Jazz Queen ($4.60) romped by 4 ¾ lengths in :58.29 for five furlongs. . .Veteran trainer Dino Apostolou broke into the win category in 2014 as Mr Shane the Pain ($3.60) rallied from last under Kubinova to win race three. . .Surprise Sale won the opener in 1:08.71 for six furlongs, and the consistent 4-year-old has finished first, second or third in all seven starts at the meet for trainer Sam Dronen. . .Live racing continues Saturday with first post 2:15 p.m. Saturday’s $20,475 feature race for $50,000/$40,000 claimers matches five older horses with aggregate earnings over $1 million.
