    GOTTSTEIN FUTURITY

    2-YEAR-OLDS

    76th RUNNING, SEPTEMBER 29, 2013

    1-1/16 MILES IN 1:43.85

JOCKEY JULIEN COUTON, DEL RIO HARBOR, WINNER: “He’s a good 2-year-old. He has a nice stature and makes big, long strides, and he can go long. We didn’t want to rush him too much. He just needed to make one big move. When I asked him, he just took off.”

JOCKEY DAVID LOPEZ, MEBOSSMAN, SECOND: “The idea wasn’t to go to the lead at all. I never expected that I would end up with it, but nobody else wanted it, so I took it. He ran very well. The winner was the best horse today.”

JOCKEY ISAIAS ENRIQUEZ, NOOSITO, THIRD: “I felt like I was sitting the perfect spot. The two leaders were going at it and I just stalked. When we came around the turn, he got distracted by the lights and went way wide. We lost so much ground. He kept trying in the lane but by then, it was too late.”

NOTES: Del Rio Harbor (6-4-1-0-$108,293)…Del Rio Harbor is a triple stakes winner at the meet and is the track’s Top 2-Year-Old Male of 2013…Doris Harwood swept all four stakes in the division this year (Del Rio Harbor 3, Noosito 1) and is No. 1 all-time with 61 stakes wins at Emerald Downs…Harwood is No. 2 with five stakes wins at the 2013 EmD meet, trailing only Tom Wenzel’s six…Julien Couton, a 32-year-old native of Aizenay, France, had two stakes wins at the meet, winning the Emerald Derby on Top 3-Year-Old Male Worldventurer and the Gottstein Futurity on Top 2-Year-Old Male Del Rio Harbor.
