    BOEING HANDICAP

3-YEAR-OLDS & UP, FILLIES AND MARES

    18th RUNNING, JUNE 7, 2013

    ONE MILE IN 1:35.08 (:24.31 :47.23 1:10.84 1:22.72)

JOCKEY DEBBIE HOONAN, GOSAILGO, WINNER: “She went up to the lead really easy. I held her a little bit, but I didn’t want to pull the race out of her. She was really game. Underneath me, she felt like she knew what she was doing, and that she was in charge. I didn’t want to discourage her. It felt like we were going really easy and we really were. I was really surprised that (E Z Kitty and Exclusive Diva) didn’t go to the lead. I though they’d be out there wingin’ and dingin’, but I guess they were trying to play a different game today and it worked in our favor. I could feel I had a lot of horse left, so I just waited and waited as long as I could. It’s just surreal coming back to win this race after an injury. It hasn’t even really hit me yet. I don’t see the injury as a bad break really. It’s just an opportunity to come back and show who you are.”

NOTES: Gosailgo (11-4-1-2-$96,739)…Debbie Hoonan has 14 career stakes wins at Emerald Downs and has ridden two Boeing winners in the last three years: Gosailgo ($20.20) and You Me and Ema B ($16) in 2011. This also was Hoonan’s first ride since June 9, when she was taken to the hospital after a paddock mishap. She then suffered micro fractures of her tibia in a training accident Friday, June 14…Trainer Robert J. Anderson has a 44-4-12-5 record at the current Hastings Racecourse meeting. He is 3-for-21 lifetime at Emerald Downs; one win in 2002 and two wins in 1998. This is his first EmD stakes win…Owner Greame Hope resides in Burnaby, British Columbia…Gosailgo is the first British Columbia-bred to win the Boeing Handicap, and the first B.C.-bred to win an EmD stakes since Taylor Said in the 2012 Longacres Mile.
