    Kent Handicap/Seattle Slew Handicap-noms

AUBURN, Wash. (July 7, 2013) – Stopshoppingdebbie and Music of My Soul seek to continue their winning ways Sunday, July 14, as Emerald Downs offers the $50,000 Kent Handicap for 3-year-old fillies and $50,000 Seattle Slew Handicap for 3-year-old colts and geldings.

For fillies, the Kent Handicap at 1 1/16 miles is the final steppingstone to the $65,000 Washington Oaks on Saturday, August 10. And for colts, the Seattle Slew Handicap at 1 1/16 miles is the final tune-up to the $65,000 Emerald Derby on Sunday, August 11.

Thus far the 3-year-old filly division has been exclusive property of Jerre Paxton’s Northwest Farms and trainer Tom Wenzel. Unprecedented at Emerald Downs, Stopshoppingdebbie, Goin to the Window and Blueberry Smoothie have swept the top three places in both the Seattle Handicap and Irish Day Handicap, and all three fillies have breeding that suggests they should relish added distance.

The 3-year-old colts and geldings division has been balanced, with Finallygotabentley scoring at 5-to-1 odds in the Auburn Handicap, and Music of My Soul rebounding from a gate mishap prior to the Auburn to notch a gate-to-wire triumph in the Coca-Cola Handicap. Trained by Doris Harwood, Music of My Soul, the track’s Top Juvenile Male of 2012, is undefeated around two turns.

The Jerry Hollendorfer-trained Outside Nashville is a proven sprinter, romping by four lengths in the Golden Nugget at Golden Gate last November, and finishing second in the Livermore Valley Wine Stakes at Pleasanton last month. Shooting Jacket captured the 1 1/16-mile Chris Loseth Handicap on July 1 at Hastings Racecourse, and Tiz Fitting has been routing well vs. starter allowance rivals in Northern California.
