I KEEP SAYING FINISHES FIRST, PLACED SECOND BY STEWARDS

AUBURN, Wash. (April 27, 2013) – I Keep Saying crossed the wire first, but Cariboo Road was awarded the win Saturday in the $14,375 Olympic Springs Purse for 3-year-olds and up at Emerald Downs.

The stewards ruled that I Keep Saying, under left-handed urging, came out and impeded Cariboo Road in deep stretch and disqualified I Keep Saying winner from first to second place. I Keep Saying, ridden by Ronald Richard, ran 5-½ furlongs in 1:01.81, and finished first by a head, as the 4-year-old gelding held off the 3-year-old gelding in one of the season’s most exciting races to date.

Cariboo Road, ridden by Debbie Hoonan, paid $3.80, $2.40 and $2.10. The Washington-bred son of Cahill Road rallied into contention, and was gaining on the winner before being bumped in the final yards.
