AUBURN, Wash. (August 26, 2012) – Lady Vivien edged Talk to My Lawyer in a driving finish for a three-quarter-length victory Sunday in the $19,950 feature race for 3-year-old fillies at Emerald Downs.

With Leslie Mawing riding, Lady Vivien ran six furlongs in 1:09.36 and paid $12.20, $5.40 and $2.60.

In the $0.50 Pick 5, which included a $4,351 carryover, one winning ticket paid a track record $20,957.40 for the 6-3-3-2-6 combination. The sequence included four double-digit winners topped by $75.20 knockout Cheeza Kay in the seventh race.

The previous Pick 5 record, $14,057.55, was set almost exactly a year ago, August 27, 2011, featuring a victory by Chu and I in the WTBOA Lads Stakes.

In Sunday’s feature, Lady Vivien rallied from last in the six-horse field and had to run down early leader Lady Hokulea while out finishing Talk to My Lawyer for the victory.

A Kentucky-bred by Posse out of 1998 Emerald Downs’ Top Washington-bred Guinevere, Lady Vivien has won two straight and is 2-2-2 in 10 starts overall with earnings of $38,611. Larry Ross is the trainer for owner-breeder Oak Crest Farm (Jack and Theresa Hodge).

Talk to My Lawyer, ridden by Jennifer Whitaker, stumbled at the start, but recovered to finish in virtual tandem with the winner. Talk to My Lawyer paid $3.60 and $2.20.

Lady Hokulea, ridden by Juan Gutierrez, led to the sixteenth pole but was out finished by the top two and settled for third place. Lady Hokulea paid $2.80.

She’s a Time Bomb, the slight 8-5 betting choice, finished fourth, followed by Lady Dakota and Jewel S.

Whitaker rode two winners Sunday, and her victory on Rhinghals in race two made her the first woman rider with 400 wins at Emerald Downs. Debbie Hoonan remains right on her heels as she notched her 399th Emerald Downs win a race later on Sweet Sara Brown.

NOTES: Leonel Camacho-Flores rode three winners including a 37-to-1 victory on Cheeza Kay in the seventh race…Fifth race winner All the Way In was disqualified and placed fifth for impeding De la Luna in the upper stretch of the one-mile race. Grab the Goods was promoted from second to first, paying $17.20, $6 and $13.40, while runner-up Get Well paid $6.40 and $15.40. The big show pays resulted from the DQ of All the Way In, as the 3-year-old filly had $11,871 of $14,876 wagered in the show pool…Cheeza Kay at $75.20 produced the meet’s second biggest $2 win pay with a nose victory in race seven. The $1 Pick 3 from Grab the Goods, Don’t Be Coy Roy and Cheeza Kay paid a meet-high $2,423.20…Live racing resumes Friday with first post 6:15 p.m.
