JOCKEY JUAN GUTIERREZ, GOIN TO THE WINDOW, WINNER: “I rode both (Goin to the Window and Blueberry Smoothie) in their first starts, so I knew they were both good fillies. It was a hard decision for which one to choose. I had more confidence in Goin to the Window because she won her race easier. I didn’t have to ask her at all. In this race, I wanted to sit behind the speed, but she pulled me right up to the front. I had to ask her a little bit in the lane because I knew (Blueberry Smoothie) wouldn’t quit. She’s a nice filly. ”

JOCKEY LESLIE MAWING, BLUEBERRY SMOOTHIE, SECOND: “I was sitting in the jockeys’ room watching the race on television, and I heard Gallyn (Mitchell) got hurt at the gate. I told Dan (Bryson), the Clerk of Scales, I was open to ride. Tom (Wenzel) came down to the paddock and gave me some last-minute instructions. My horse broke great and showed good speed early. Next thing I know, Juan (Gutierrez) had his horse right along side me. My horse got a little uncomfortable. I don’t think she liked the pressure. Still, she straightened out in the stretch and tried the whole way.”

NOTES: Goin to the Window (2-2-0-0-$37,043)…Juan Gutierrez & Tom Wenzel both are No. 1 this season with five stakes wins apiece at Emerald Downs. They have combined for three stakes wins this season, two by 3-year-old filly Exclusive Diva and one by Goin to the Window…Gutierrez is No. 3 all-time with 43 EmD stakes wins and Wenzel is No. 10 all-time with 18…Northwest Farms is No. 1 all-time with 29 stakes wins including a record four in the Angie C Stakes. Today’s victory doesn’t add to that total since Goin to the Window is owned in partnership by Northwest Farms and Debbie Paxton…Jockey Gallyn Mitchell injured his hand/thumb in a pre-race incident behind the starting gate and was replaced by Leslie Mawing on runner-up Blueberry Smoothie. According to agent/wife Denise Mitchell, Gallyn Mitchell was taken to Auburn Regional Medical Center for x-rays. Mitchell is the track’s all-time leading rider with 1,347 wins including a victory Sunday in the second race on Notdabossame…Gutierrez, the meet’s leading rider with 73 wins, celebrates his 43rd birthday Monday.
