    Sis's Sis holds off Cielator to win Saturday's feature race

    SIS’S SIS ALL THE WAY IN $17,950 SATURDAY FEATURE

    AUBURN, Wash. (Aug. 4 2012) – The classy Sis’s Sis held off Cielator and scored a half-length victory Saturday in the $17,950 Cascade Coffee Purse for older fillies and mares at Emerald Downs.

    Ridden by Juan Gutierrez, Sis’s Sis ran 6-½-furlongs in 1:14.53 and paid $4.20. $2.80 and $2.40. Jim Penney, assisted by Kay Cooper, is the trainer for owners Michael and Amy Feuerborn of Maple Valley, Wash.

    Gutierrez, who turns 43 Monday, rode four winners on the nine-race card and extended his lead to 71-64 over Leslie Mawing in the jockeys’ standings.

    Sis’s Sis led throughout the race, setting fractions of :22.52, :44.60 and 1:08.27, and was fully extended to prevail over Cielator.

    Cielator, ridden by Jorge Rosales, chased the winner from the inside and was resilient in defeat, re-rallying to make the outcome close. Cielator paid $3 and $2.40.

    It was 3-¼-lengths back to Seventyprcentcocoa, ridden by Leslie Mawing, and a $2.80 show payoff. Perfect Pie and Maggie’s Special completed the order of finish.

    Mawing was winless Saturday and remains two wins away from 2,000 for his career. He had had at least one winner on the last 20 programs he had ridden at Emerald Downs. Mawing is scheduled to ride in six races Sunday.

    The track’s Top 3-Year-Old Filly in 2010, Sis’s Sis has won eight-of-17 starts at Emerald Downs including two-for-two this season. She earned $9,873 to increase he career total to $141,513.

    NOTES: 2011 Gottstein Futurity runner-up Havanna Red ($4.40) broke his maiden impressively in race three, running 6-½ furlongs in 1:15.41 under Juan Gutierrez for trainer Chris Stenslie and owners/breeders Rich & Ann Richardson of Chelan, Wash. By Cahill Road-Bou Bou De Dough, Havanna Red finished second in four of his first seven starts including both the WTBOA Lads Stakes and Gottstein Futurity last year…Shomwe Yourfriends ($4.60) prevailed in the sixth race and was re-claimed for $20,000 by owner Chris Stenslie and owner One Horse Will Do Corp. and Scott & Tina Saxwold Stenslie saddled two winners Saturday: Havanna Red and second-race winner Dream Caller ($6)…Apprentice Eliska Kubinova rode two winners Saturday—her fourth straight two win day—and is 12 wins from tying the single-season apprentice record of 70 wins…Live racing continues Sunday with first post 2:15 p.m. The $50,000 Angie C. Stakes for 2-year-old fillies goes as race eight at 5:52 p.m., with Northwest Farms’ Blueberry Smoothie and Goin to the Window the 9-to-5 and 2-to-1 morning line favorites…Also Sunday, nominations close for the 77th running of the $200,000 Longacres Mile (G3) to be run Sunday, August, 19.
