Bella Angelina rallies late to capture Friday's feature race

BELLA ANGELINA PREVAILS IN EMERALD FEATURE
    CAMACHO-FLORES SUFFERS BROKEN ARM

AUBURN, Wash. (July 13, 2012) – Bella Angelina wore down Gentleman’s Red in a stirring finish and scored a neck victory Friday in the feature race for 3-year-old fillies at Emerald Downs.

Ridden by Javier Matias, Bella Angelina ran six furlongs in 1:10.55 and paid $9.80, $4.20 and $3.40. Howard Belvoir is the trainer and co-owner with Rising Star Stable II.

Gentleman’s Red, the 9-to-5 betting favorite ridden by Leonel Camacho-Flores, took the lead into the stretch but was out-finished by Bella Angelina and finished second. Gentleman’s Red paid $3.40 and $2.80 for place and show

    Jockey Leonel Camacho-Flores

Camacho-Flores had a rough evening, sustaining injuries in the seventh and final race when his mount, Send Silver, tripped going into the turn and sent the jockey hurtling to the ground. The 28-year-old rider was diagnosed with a broken left arm and facial lacerations, and was taken to Valley Medical Regional Center for treatment. Voted Top Riding Achievement last year for his strong second-half showing, Camacho-Flores is fifth with 36 wins at the current meet.

In the feature race, Belle Angelina ended a six-race losing streak during which she had run fairly well, finishing third, fifth and second in her most recent races. Friday, she rallied five-wide on the turn, engaged Gentleman’s Red in mid-stretch, and then won a two-horse battle to the wire.

A Washington-bred by Raise the Bluff, Belle Angelina has a 2-2-1 record in 10 starts overall with earnings of $13,098.

NOTES: Gallyn Mitchell rode two winners and was the only jockey or trainer with more than one win Friday…Mitchell also received a two-day suspension, Thursday, July 19 and Friday, July 20, for causing interference while riding Amazing Legacy in the eighth race on June 2…Live racing continues Saturday with a nine-race card at 2:15 p.m. The featured eighth race is for 3-year-old fillies at 6-½ furlongs with a $14,375 purse. Tribaltique, from the barn of leading trainer Frank Lucarelli, is the 8-to-5 morning line favorite.
