Peaceful Wings
Virginia-bred mare (b. 1992)
by Halo-Belle Gallante
Career (1996): 20-2-1-1, $21,359

She’s a retired racehorse, but much more famous in her second career.  Peaceful Wings is still going strong at age 22 at Pabst Blue Ribbon Farm in Buckley.

Rick and Debbie Pabst have been stalwarts of the Washington breeding industry since the 1970s and a Kentucky sale helped Debbie achieve a goal.

“Rick knew I always wanted a mare by Halo and that finally happened,” said Debbie Pabst.

Peaceful Wings won races at Playfair and Hastings and ran on Emerald Downs opening day in June, 1996.  Her career as a broodmare soon began and her first foal was Jade Green, born in 1998.

“She’s really small, barely 15 hands,” says Pabst.  “All her foals have been small, too.  They never sold well because of their size.”

But they could run!  Jade Green was a stakes winner in the tough Emerald Downs three-year-old class of 2001.  Peaceful Reign won the Seattle Slew Handicap the year Noosa Beach and Winning Machine were three-year-olds.  Another son, Jebrica, has had an outstanding, multiple stakes winning career.  So Whatabout was up for top claimer awards.

She produced a foal 12 straight seasons, every year from 1998-2009.  Multiple stakes-placed Mebossman won here on April 27 giving Peaceful Wings an amazing 11 Emerald Downs winners, 12 overall.
